I’m done…

Posted in Books, PSN Top Stories, Camera Raw by on the August 29th, 2007

Ok, I’m done…(finally)
I won’t bore you with the stories of redone screenshots and re-editing what I re-wrote, over and over (and over), but the good news is, last Monday, August 27th, I turned in the last chapter of Real World Camera Raw with Adobe Photoshop CS3. I think Bruce would be pleased. (I would point you to a book link at Peachpit, if Peachpit had one yet-I’m working on that).
So, that means I’m finally coming up for air–just in time to hurry off next week to Photoshop World. As a result, I’m going to “ease” back into the daily grind of posting to PhotoshopNews–and there are some stories to tell (well, some I really can’t) about how I spent my summer vacation.
So, if you are going to Photoshop World next week, stop by and say HI! And now that the book’s done, start looking for stuff to show up here.

Nokia N81: Music Junkies Will Love This Phone

Posted in Uncategorized by Kalle on the August 29th, 2007
Nokia N81 8GB

Unlike the N9x series cellphones which are designed for multimedia of all sorts, the new Nokia N81 is focused on music. It does not have any fancy Carl Zeiss lens or GPS, but it does sport really loud stereo speakers, 3.5mm headphone jack, 8GB of internal memory for all your tunes, 3G, and WiFi.

It can be a decent gaming phone too, with its support for landscape orientation games and a D-pad suited for gaming.

Lastly, the Nokia N81 is configured to find and buy music and games from the Nokia Music Store and N-Gage games service. Sounds like a great integrated entertainment solution.

Price and Availability

US$499 for 2GB removable microSD memory model, US$599 for 8GB internal memory model. Fourth quarter of 2007.

Official Press Release

Nokia N81 and Nokia N81 8GB: Entertainment made simple

Equally impressive, the Nokia N81 is configured to find, buy, manage and play music and games purchased from the Nokia Music Store and N-Gage games service. The estimated retail price of the Nokia N81 is 360 EUR before subsidies or taxes. The Nokia N81 8GB is expected to retail for 430 EUR before subsidies or taxes. Why do laptops ship with sucky batteries?

Posted in Uncategorized by Kalle on the August 27th, 2007

I just ordered a new high-capacity battery for my work laptop.  It holds nearly three times as much power as the battery shipped with this laptop, but it's made and sold by the same vendor.  Battery life is the standard that all laptops are judged by, why would anyone sell a laptop with a battery that has 1/3 the capacity that the laptop's chassis can handle?  Wouldn't Dell sell more laptops if they all came with the full-size battery?

Compromise in IT

Posted in Uncategorized by Kalle on the August 27th, 2007

It's very important to know how to do your job and when you should use a specific technique or technology.  It's also very important to know when not to use the best available technique or technology.  Success in IT depends on knowing when to dig your heels in for either scenario and when to let go of the reigns.  Sometimes we gain more by doing less, even if less doesn't always produce the best product.
