Andrew Rodney Guest Blogs on Photoshop Insider

Scott Kelby has our own Andrew Rodney of PixelGenius on board as a guest blogger on his Photoshop Insider blog. Andrew talks about “getting old” along side Photoshop and how he, as a Photoshop user of 18 years has learned to love Lightroom. Check it out here. BTW, the image above is a shot Andrew did of his late dog Tosh. He still has 3 dogs (hence the “Digital Dog“ moniker), Zia, Mela and Brisket.

Zia on the couch. Note the eyes, Zia is part wolf and doesn’t always trust me.

Written by PhotoShop News.Photoshop Disasters Web Site

For those of you with a bit of time on your hands (or want to check out just how bad some people’s Photoshop skills are), check out PhotoshopDisasters.com.
Here you’ll find some really shoddy Photoshop work. So bad in fact that it’s really rather amusing…such as this Hungarian ad for Red Bull.
Red Bull: Gives You Nightmares

Comment: Red Bull in Hungary makes you wish you had never seen this image. Scrubbing your eyeballs doesn’t work, I tried.
EEEK!
Most of the posts seem to have been made by Cosmo7…but aside from a web mail form, there’s really no way to know who’s behind the site. The main intro says: “Have you seen a truly awful piece of Photoshop work? Clumsy manipulation, senseless comping, lazy cloning and thoughtless retouching are our bread and butter. And yes, deep down, we love Photoshop.”
Here’s another unforgivable disaster…
Zoo: Adolf Hitler Is A Babe And She’s Melting

Comment: Gemma Atkinson gets some rough treatment from this tawdry babeblog. It looks like her right hand is a flip of the left, or would have been if the artist hadn’t quietly given up. I have no idea what they were trying to remove, but the unfortunate shadow under her nose suggests a whiff of the third reich.
I guess there’s still room for schlock in the marketplace, but it would be useful for some of these “professionals” to take a Photoshop class…

Written by PhotoShop News.A YouTube for artists

Source: CNET
Written by Ina Fried
DeviantArt gets 1.5 billion page views a month, making it one of the most popular Web sites that many people have never even heard of.
Despite the name, only a fraction of the art on the site is what might be labeled deviant. In reality, the site boasts millions of user-uploaded works of art, everything from photography to 3D digital conceptual art to old-fashioned canvas-and-paint portraits.
Think of it as a YouTube for artists trying to show their own work. Pieces can be viewed, commented on, even added to a user’s own gallery of favorites. The range of work defies characterization, but there is a heavy dose of cartooning and fantasy art as well as some adult content, which is blocked for unregistered users.
In some cases, artists have posted their digital leftovers in a “stock” pile that other artists can use as the genesis for their own work.
The site’s goal, in a nutshell, is to democratize and inspire art.

Written by PhotoShop News.Ok, it DID finally Air!

On Thursday, Scott posted on his blog (Photoshop Insider) that Photoshop User TV DID finally air on the Fox Business channel.
From Scott: “Hard to believe as this must sound, but Photoshop User TV actually did air on “real” television last night on Fox Business channel. Now, as you might expect, besides the date problem, there was apparently a time slot issue in some parts of the country, and as soon as I’m back in the office (tomorrow), I’ll track it down and hopefully get you the right info for next week, but hey….it’s a start.
”
So, some people in some parts of the country got to see it, others may not have. The good news however is that regardless of the Fox Business channel’s scheduling “issues”, you can STILL be assured of seeing each and every episode on Photoshop User TV’s web site!

Install all of the Dr. Brown Services with a click of a mouse. This installer takes all the trouble out of loading scripts into the correct locations.
It is also designed to update any previous installation, and it can be used to uninstall the scripts from your computer as well.
To learn more, be sure and watch the tutorials for all of these fine scripts.
CS3 scripts in this installation:
- Dr. Brown’s 1-2-3 Process
- Dr. Brown’s Caption Maker
- Dr. Brown’s Black and White
- Dr. Brown’s Place-A-Matic
- Dr. Brown’s Merge-A-Matic
CS3 Extended scripts in this installation:
- Dr. Brown’s Background Remover
- Dr. Brown’s 1-2-3 Process
- Dr. Brown’s Caption Maker
- Dr. Brown’s Slide Show
- Dr. Brown’s Stack-A-Matic
- Dr. Brown’s Black and White
- Dr. Brown’s Place-A-Matic
- Dr. Brown’s Merge-A-Matic
- Dr Brown’s Fit Video to Audio
- Dr. Brown’s Interpret Footage
What’s new in this 1.9.4 version:
- Rounding errors have now been reduced in 1-2-3 Process.
- Color profiles will now export with super small JPEG files in 1-2-3 Process.
- Merge-A-Matic is back with support for multi-layered Photoshop files.
- Place-A-Matic files are named after the first image selected in Adobe Bridge.
Known Issues and features:
- The Easy Installer will NOT work if CS2 and CS3 are both installed on your machine. The manual installation process is necessary in this situation.
- These scripts will only work with the English version of Adobe Photoshop CS3.
- Adobe Photoshop CS3 must be installed in the default system location for the Easy Installer to work correctly.
- For nonstandard installations, use the manual installation instructions below.
- Some complex Actions can cause errors with 1-2-3 Process.
- All Action “Open” statements must be removed, or turned off, before running Actions in 1-2-3 Process. If the “Open” statements are left on, then all your processed images will remain open.
- Processing images from a shared network drive has been known to fail.
- Super small JPEG images will only export at 72 dpi, because it uses the Web Export Feature to process the images.

Written by PhotoShop News.Dan (Dano) Steinhardt on Photoshop User TV

Dan (Dano to his friends) Steinhardt of Epson America was on Photoshop User TV this week with host Scott Kelby. Episode 104 featured Dano talking about his photography as well as Epson’s new Exhibition Fiber Paper.

Dano and Scott talked about photography and making state of the art digital prints. Scott admitted to “hating Dano” for being a really great “urban shooter”.

Dano explained that originally, the Exhibition Fiber Paper was being designed primarily for B&W printing but that during the testing, the paper was also deemed excellent for color printing as well.

My favorite part was the extensive FX that Photoshop User TV used to “highlight” Dano’s rather shiny head…(something that makeup alone couldn’t tame).

He even got special mention in the closing credits.
Check out Episode 104 available as a streaming Flash movie or downloadable as a QuickTime movie.

Written by PhotoShop News.NASA Web Feature Wins Design Award From Adobe

WASHINGTON, Oct. 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — NASA’s Web site received a significant multimedia award this week when Adobe Systems Inc., of San Jose, Calif., honored the interactive International Space Station Reference Guide with a 2007 Max Award.
“The NASA Web team continually is finding new and innovative ways of making NASA more accessible to the world,” said Ron Ticker, NASA’s manager for space station development and the project’s sponsor. “The Interactive ISS Reference Guide and its recognition is another testament to the team’s success in that endeavor.”
With video and interactive elements, the guide explains the basic operations and physical dimensions of the International Space Station. Astronaut Mike Fincke, who spent six months aboard the station, guides users through the multimedia guide. Fincke explains how the crew works and lives in space, and how the station operates.
The guide also includes 360-degree views of the inside of several space station modules. It will be updated regularly as new elements are added to the station; the first update will be online Oct. 12.
The agency’s web presence takes another leap forward later this year with the rollout of a new design that allows Internet visitors to interact with the agency, create personal bookmark collections and playlists, and navigate and search more effectively.

Worth1000, the perennial Photoshop contest web site has just posted a recent contest titled Counterfeit Art 11–How to tell your fine art is a forgery. The contestants have been taking liberties with the classics…
From the web site come these contest rules: “The rules of this game are thus: You will take any famous painting or artwork (any period is fine) and alter it in such a way that it is obviously a forgery, as in the themepost. As always, quality is a must. We will remove poor entries no matter how much we like you. You’ll have 48 hours to submit for this contest, so make your submission count.”
Hit list: NO celebrities. NO guitars. Use them and get disqualified.
